FO 2100 - Fiber Optic Seminar is a one-day lecture course on fiber optic technology that provides the student with basic information about optical fiber types, optical fiber uses, and the terminology used in fiber systems. In this seminar the student is introduced to fiber optic technology, general information, and product terms. Safety, introduction to fiber optic testing and types of tests sets, as well as tools and consumables needed to assemble fiber optic connectors are also discussed.

  • Audience: Anyone who is involved with optical fiber systems or who wants or needs general knowledge about these systems.

  • Prerequisites: None

FO 2200 - Fiber Optic Installation & Splicing is a three day hands-on training session in fiber optic technology.  The session starts with an introduction to fiber optic technology, followed by sections on general information and safety. The next session includes hands-on exercises covering the installation of ST II+, SC or LC connectors and CSL splicing. The seminar leader will also discuss applications for the interconnect unit (LIU), placing procedures for building cable (LGBC), optical cable entrance facilities (OCEF), and the LT1A organizer. In addition the introduction to light source, power meter testing, OTDR concepts and a fusion splicing overview will be covered during this comprehensive three day session.

  • Audience: For those who need technical skills, knowledge and hands-on experience to install fiber optic connectors. Does not include placing of outside cables.

  • Prerequisites: The student must have manual dexterity for fine work and must be able to use common hand tools.

FO 2300 - Fiber Optic Fusion Splicing is a one day course designed to give the splicer hands-on experience in the preparation of 12 fiber ribbons and mass-fusion splicing. The ribbon preparation and splicing procedures will be covered and they are; accessing ribbons from the cable core tube and cleaning, using stripping tools to remove ribbon matrix material and fiber coating and cleaving the 12-fiber ribbons.

  • Audience: Splicers involved with mass-fusion splicing of 12-fiber ribbons.

  • Prerequisites: The student must have manual dexterity for fine work and must be able to use common hand tools.

FO 2400 - Fiber Optic Testing is a one day course designed to introduce the tester to basic principles of fiber optic testing procedures for the OTDR and Optical Light Source (OLS) and Optical Power Meter (OPM). Although this course material is comprehensive, field experience with the test sets are desirable. .

  • Audience: Anyone wishing to learn the basics of fiber optic testing procedures for OTDR and OLS and OPM equipment.

  • Prerequisites: None

FO 2600 - Fiber Optic Installation, Testing & Splicing is a 4 1/2 day hands-on fiber optic training session that starts out with an overview of fiber optic technology and safety and leads into hands-on work operations for the installation of STII, SC and LC connectors, mechanical splicing and continuity testing using optical loss sets, distance and splice loss measurements using the OTDR and installation of a closure and terminating equipment is also covered.

  • Audience: People who need the technical skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience to install, maintain, and test fiber iptic cable and associated products.

  • Prerequisites: None

The training method used by the Kenton Group is to focus on our course training manuals. Comprehensive development efforts have been engaged to create each course manual and they are of the highest quality in the industry. Each seminar participant receives a personal copy of our graphically illustrated course manual. Given the nature of this industry Kenton Group constantly updates and augments these manuals in an effort to meet the expectations and demands of the dynamic data and telecommunications marketplace.

Training is a critical element in the success of any individual or organization operating or marketing to the telecommunications industry. This is evident by the utilization of our services by the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency, Harris Corporation, Saskatchewan Telephone Co., Newfoundland Telephone Co., Citizens Telephone Co., Northern Telecom, GTE, ICI, U.S. West, and Bell Canada. These organizations understand the necessary commitment to training to keep up and stay ahead of the competition.
